Hermanubis - Custom Altar Piece
The patron had difficulty finding a statue of this Kemetic composite deity. Hermanubis, as a psychopomp, acts as a guide for the spirits of the dead. The patron works closely with many deities of the dead and makes frequent offerings to spirits of the unnamed dead at a nearby pauper’s cemetery. There’s a large tree growing in the cemetery, affectionately referred to as the Hel Tree, twisting upwards with half lively and full of healthy growth and the other half dead and decayed. The image of this tree was incorporated into the piece for structural purposes and as a personalizing touch representing the patron’s magical stewardship and relationship to this deity.
This piece was created by stoneware ceramic with a mix of finishing techniques: wonder glaze, stains, metallic paint, and stands about 11 inches tall.
